IT was a great level of competition at the 2025 Fiji Men’s and Mixed Netball competition, which took place at the National Netball Centre in Laucala over the weekend.

The association president, Myron Williams, expressed that the competition at this premier event was unmatched in terms of intensity and skill.

He adds unlike traditional netball games played by women, men’s and mixed netball were described as being more physical and demanding.

“This year’s competition marked a clear shift in the competitive landscape of the sport, the intensity lifted, the skills sharpened, and the competition tightened across all five grades,” said Williams.

Williams emphasised the toughness of the competition and likened it to playing rugby, highlighting the physical nature of the sport.

“The competition was great, it was a premier competition, and it was the toughest, its physical it’s not the Netball you will watch the girls play.

“It’s almost like playing rugby, last year we had the competition in Lautoka, and this year in Suva, the level of competition and the growth of the competition is amazing.

“Several teams stood out this year, not just for winning title’s but for the quality of their performances.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Ministry of Health and Medical Services HIV Unit for partnering with us this year, using the sport as a platform for HIV awareness, education, and testing is something we are deeply committed to.

Meanwhile, in the competition, Lautoka Maroons showed their skill in the Masters (40+) grade by defeating Tailevu Doves 28-15 in the finals.

In the Open Mix grade, Nasinu outclassed Suva Swifts 37-25 to claim the title.

The under-19 Men’s grade had a thrilling finish with Nadi edging out defending champions Suva 31-30 in a close match.
