THE Tagimocia Netball Club U15 team received a major boost to their off-season preparation, earning a rare opportunity to face off against the touring Wandereers Netball Club U15 teams from Australia.

The team took on the Possums team and the Emu team in the two-day competition held at the USP Gym in Suva from December 8-9.

The commitment of the Australian club to nurture its grassroots talents has really inspired Tagimocia coach Inoke Vuli.

Vuli says the match up against the Australian club sets a great tone to the team’s pre-season training.

“I can really see that grassroot is taken seriously in Australia that’s what they showcased today,” Vuli said.

“For my girls today (yesterday) it was a big challenge for them, this is the foundation of their pre-season they haven’t been training but they gave it all their best out there”

Vuli says the competition was a great exposure for his young netters.

“I didn’t want results I just wanted them to get their exposure and see what they can learn from the touring teams,” he said.

In addition to the players exposure the competition has also been an eye-opener for local coaches.

“Experience wise it’s all for their exposure, all the small details the touring team did today it’s something we will take note of managers and coaches and see how we can implement them in our off-season training.” Vuli explained.

In the team’s final match yesterday against the Emu’s the Tagimocia girls went down fighting 32-20 against the Australian opponents.

Vuli hope the Wandereers Club trip to Fiji will inspire our local netball body and it’s stakeholders to consider more grassroots opportunities and pathways to help our young netters reach their full potential.
