The 2025 FAME Awards delivered a memorable night for Fiji’s media industry, with veteran journalist Anish Chand taking home the coveted Journalist of the Year title.
With 34 years’ experience backing him up, veteran journalist Anish Chand goes home with the Journalist of the year award and scoop of the year.
Chand urges young journalist to work with honesty, good ethics and to be the voice of the people.
During his acceptance speech Chand said it was not an easy task for him to get this award as he recalled going through thick and thin to get stories.
“It wasn’t easy winning this award especially among other solid media personnel,” he said
The event, held in Suva, celebrated excellence in reporting, storytelling, and media innovation across the country.
Chand, a respected figure with decades of experience in the newsroom, was honoured for his commitment to truth, accuracy, and fearless journalism.
Judges praised his consistent ability to produce impactful stories, his strong investigative approach, and his dedication to covering issues that matter to everyday Fijians.
In his acceptance speech, Chand acknowledged the hardworking newsroom teams across the country and emphasised that journalism remains a crucial pillar of democracy.
He reflected on the challenges faced by the media in recent years but encouraged journalists to continue pursuing stories that uplift communities and hold institutions accountable.
Colleagues described his win as “well-deserved,” noting that Chand’s leadership, mentoring, and passion for high-quality reporting have shaped many young journalists entering the field.
The FAME Awards, which recognises outstanding work in Fiji’s media landscape, featured categories spanning print, radio, television, and digital journalism.
Chand’s top win was one of the night’s highlights, symbolising the continued importance of credible and courageous reporting in the country.
With this award, Anish Chand further cements his legacy as one of Fiji’s most influential and dedicated journalists — a storyteller whose work continues to inspire confidence in the power of the press.
