THE Fiji Commerce & Employers Federation president Eldon Eastgate officiated at their 65 years celebration last month, highlighting its remarkable milestone — and 65 years of representation, advocacy, and growth.
As its 24th president Mr Eastgate said he was proud of the meaningful work they do.
“In 1960, when our visionary business leaders established the federation – then known as the Fiji Employers Consultative Association – their goal was clear and far-reaching: to give employers a united voice, to promote fair industrial relations, and to strengthen the private sector as the engine of Fiji’s growth.”
Mr Eastgate highlighted FCEF’s evolution across decades—from championing tripartite labour dialogue in the 1970s–80s, expanding training and productivity programs in the 1990s, driving reform and adopting its current name in the 2000s, to recently becoming a leader in advocacy and inclusive growth for MSMEs, women, and emerging entrepreneurs.
Mr Eastgate acknowledged the many contributors to FCEF’s 65-year journey, recognising past presidents and board members for their leadership, and thanking chief executives and staff whose dedication turned vision into progress.
He noted the trust placed in the Federation by its member organisations and highlighted the vital support of partners, sponsors, and collaborators.
“While celebrating the past is important, the true meaning of this milestone lies equally in looking ahead to the Federation’s future direction and continued impact,” he said. He also expressed that the Federation’s members — from MSMEs to large enterprises — remain its lifeblood, and he acknowledged government partners for their continued collaboration.
He urged future FCEF leaders to uphold the organisation’s legacy with integrity and vision.
Concluding his remarks, he invited everyone to celebrate 65 years of representation, advocacy, and growth, and to toast to the prosperity of FCEF, its members, and Fiji’s future.
