PLAYING their hearts out at the Fiji Bitter Wairiki 7s this week means doing their best for their fellow officers covering for their shifts back on the mainland.

This is a driving aim behind the Wardens Gold men’s team as they head into the second instalment of the Fiji Bitter 7s series, which starts today.

Coach Viliame Veikoso shared those sentiments when asked what key aims were pushing the team forward in the tournament.

“We are coming over and taking part with the aim of winning,” Veikoso said.

“We know that in coming over for this, we are thinking of our fellow officers who are working during this time and covering our shifts so that we could come over.

“And in doing so, we are not coming with the intent of taking a break but to perform to the best of our ability and win.”

The Wardens teams for this tournament are made up of a balanced mix of players from last year and new players selected this year.

Veikoso also thanked the Fiji Corrections Service, their families, colleagues and loved ones for their support.

They made the trip over to the Garden Island via the Goundar Shipping Limited vessel MV Lady Daya, departing Suva on Tuesday night and arrived in Taveuni yesterday.

Wardens Gold, Devo Babas, Yamacia, Army Green, Village Boys and Y-IS Kava Vacalea are some of the teams to look out for in Wairiki.

Village Boys won the first leg of the series, beating Kava Vacalea 15-12 at the Yalovata 7s two weeks ago.

The Wairiki 7s starts today and ends on Saturday.
