Fiji’s first responders will be able to conduct emergency procedures on site after undergoing intensive Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training in Taiwan, together with new equipment provided by the Taipei Trade Office.
Taipei office official Joseph Chow handed over EMT supplies to the Fiji National Fire Authority yesterday.
Mr Chow said the supplies are part of ongoing cooperation between Taiwan and Fiji in disaster response and emergency medical services, and partnership in other sectors.
“Today we are not only witnessing the handover of paramedic supplies, but we are also celebrating the continuing partnership between our two countries,” Mr Chow said, adding they reflect the deepening collaboration of the two countries.
NFA’s chief executive officer Sowane Puamau said the supplies are lifelines and tools that enable first responders to act rapidly and ultimately save lives.
“These are not just boxes; they represent lifelines and tools that empower first responders to act faster and treat more effectively,” Mr Puamau said.
“The skills acquired by the 10 officers combined with the new EMT supplies would enhance the capabilities of Fiji’s Paramedic Unit in emergency medical services.”
