The Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi has re-issued a heavy rain alert at 10.30am today, warning that unstable weather is expected to persist over several parts of the country in the coming days.
The alert remains in force for the Northern Division and Northern Lau, and is now extended to Eastern Viti Levu, the Yasawa and Lomaiviti groups, and the rest of the Lau group.
According to the centre, a trough of low pressure sitting to the northeast of Fiji continues to drift southward and will influence local weather conditions for the next few days.
In the Northern Division, Lau and Lomaiviti, occasional showers are expected, increasing to rain from tonight.
For Eastern Viti Levu—covering Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri-Ra—and the Yasawa group, cloudy periods with isolated showers are forecast, becoming more frequent and intensifying to rain later tonight.
Authorities warn of possible flash flooding in flood-prone or low-lying areas, informal settlements, communities, businesses, and Irish crossings, which may cause traffic disruptions. Drivers are also urged to exercise caution as slippery roads could lead to hazardous conditions, increase accident risks, and cause travel delays, especially in poorly drained areas.
