OFFICERS are now hunting for the mystery man allegedly linked to police officers caught up in the drug trade, says Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu.
“The scope of our investigation is to identify the source, as the screenshots shared only implicated police officers; however, we want to know who the other party was,” Mr Tudravu said.
“Digital forensic checks are complete, and an investigator is preparing to fly to Australia, where, with the help of the Australian Federal Police, a statement will be recorded.
“This is important to establish the authenticity of the messages as we need evidence to proceed.”
Mr Tudravu said his team was pushing hard, but warned the case was not straightforward.
“Investigators are doing their best to expedite the investigation; however, we are also mindful of the fact that we are working with other jurisdictions in the conduct of this investigation.”
Meanwhile, Mr Tudravu and Australian Federal Police Commissioner Krissy Barrett, who met Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka yesterday, will front the media together at 11.30am today.
