RUGBY 7s legend Waisale Serevi has revealed that he is considering contesting the upcoming election.
When initially asked by this newspaper if he ever considered standing for elections he replied, “I would love to do that if given the opportunity, but I’ll come to that…. it’s not closed that’s something I want to do in the next couple of months.”
He believes he has done enough to help people and communities through rugby and stepping into politics is best move, in giving back to the nation that has helped become who he is today.
“But I’m open and I would love to be up there (contesting the election), in rugby I’ve already done a lot, I’ve helped people and rugby communities and maybe with the elections it’s an opportunity to serve the community of Fiji.”
With no current political party standing out as a viable option for his political aspirations he intends to leave no stones unturned.
“At the moment I’m just praying to God which party to go with, or to stand as an independent.”
Despite Serevi’s political or civil service inexperience, his passion to give back to the community, his patriotic heart for our nation and the connection he has with the people could make him a viable candidate in the upcoming election.
