17-year-old among drunk-driving arrests

Listen to this article:

A 17-year-old student was among 14 drivers arrested for drunk driving during nationwide Random Breath Test operations conducted last night.

The Traffic Enforcement Unit from Police Headquarters carried out its second round of tests along the Namaka–Nadi corridor, where 11 drivers were arrested from the 320 screened.

Another team operating in Suva tested 38 drivers, resulting in three arrests — including the 17-year-old provisional licence holder.

Police say the 14 arrested comprised five provisional licence holders, three Public Service Vehicle drivers and six Group 2 licence holders.

Authorities are again warning young drivers and public transport operators that drunk driving puts lives at risk and will not be tolerated.
