Reinforcing tactics and execution will be the primary focus for the Fiji Airways Fijiana seven’s team as they prepare for tomorrow’s highly anticipated Cape Town seven’s tournament.
After a disappointing fourth place finish in Dubai last week, head coach Richard Walker has employed an adaptive training approach involving match analysis and walk throughs.
“For us it’s showing work-Ons but making sure that when we are showing work-Ons the individual clips that we show we tell them it’s for everybody, when we do our mental preparation, we can’t have clips for individuals otherwise they might crawl under a blanket feeling like they let the team down,” Walker explained.
“So, when we are showing our clips it’s for everybody making sure that we are getting better when we get into those situations and that has been positive.”
During the video reviews the Walker received some good feedback from the players.
“And also, we are getting feed backs from the players, they giving us feed backs around warm-ups, so that we are keeping their bodies in good shape that we not asking too much of them in warm-ups,” said Walker.
The Fijiana 7s side will are pooled with USA, Great Britain and Dubai winners New Zealand.
They will take on USA at 8.44 tonight in their opening match of the Cape Town Sevens.
