The Heartland Sisters netball team from Kinoya made a strong start on the first day of the Central Community Games, emerging victorious in their match against Caubati with a score of 15-9.

The match, held at the National Netball Centre in Laucala yesterday, showcased the determination and skill of the young team as they outplayed their opponents.

Team manager Eleni Kataduadua commended the girls for their impressive performance on the court, highlighting their hard work and commitment to securing the win.

“The girls really did well on the court, we had less time to form the team but mi thankful for the girls for their hard work by getting the win,” said Kataduadua.

With a roster comprised of young players, Kataduadua emphasised the importance of providing them with opportunities for growth and development.

She believes that exposure at events like the Central Community Games can help these aspiring athletes progress and potentially earn a spot on the national team.

“We have a young side, it’s all about learning and growing, with a young team we need to get them exposed and maybe one day they will do the national jersey and represent the country.”

Although Caubati put up a tough fight, the Heartland Sisters remained resilient and focused throughout the match.

Kataduadua acknowledged the pressure they faced but praised her team for staying composed and ultimately emerging victorious.

Looking ahead, Kataduadua identified areas for improvement, particularly in terms of ball work. However, she remains confident in the girls’ abilities and is optimistic about their potential for success.

Kataduadua extended her gratitude to the team’s supporters and parents for their unwavering dedication.

The competition will conclude today.
