The Lands Transport Authority (LTA) is yet to respond to queries about a road incident in Navua that has raised concerns about driver behaviour and safety on public roads.
This follows an incident on September 16, 2025, where 10-year old Joji Caudre was struck by a Toyota Aqua along Nakaulevu Rd in Rovadrau shortly after stepping off a bus. His parents claim the driver is a woman known to witnesses, and a report was lodged at the Navua Police Station. The family said they had not received any update from authorities since September 19.
Questions sent to LTA sought clarification on whether it had any information regarding the vehicle or driver, and whether it had assisted police with their investigations. The enquiry also raised concerns about increasing reports of drug-affected and reckless drivers, as well as the absence of enforcement presence along Nakaulevu Rd, which is used daily by many school children.
Further queries related to allegations of taxidrivers using stimulants to work longer hours, LTA’s framework for random drug testing of public service vehicle drivers, and whether checks would be intensified during the festive season. Information on recent awareness programs and any upcoming safety campaigns were also requested.
LTA public relations officer Shahani Mala acknowledged the enquiry to an email sent on November 14, saying, “We acknowledge receipt of your email. Please allow us time to revert with clarifications.”
She later added, “Please note that our team is still working on the response, and we will get back to you soon.”
