The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team’s performances in the Dubai 7s pool stages have shown clear signs of a side rediscovering its mojo after a challenging previous season.

Convincing wins against USA 19-7 and France 28-19, Reapi Ulunisau’s first-half hat-trick, revealed signs of our rugby ladies rediscovering their Fijian mojo.

Although they fell to a powerful New Zealand outfit 12-31 in their final pool game, the Fijiana’s earlier victories secured them a semi-final clash against Australia.

The team is beginning to regain its Fijian identity, the crisp passes, offloads during contacts, kickoff retention and instinctive support plays are slowly becoming trademarks of the team.

With their attacking play coming to life, defence is still a work in progress for Richard Walker and his team.

Greater organisation and communication at the back will be vital to maintaining their defensive structures.

Like the men’s side, the Fijiana players have yet to master their playmaking instincts.

The challenge is to channel these moments of brilliance at the right time to spark attacks rather than halt momentum.

The Fijiana played Australia in the women’s cup semi-finals last night.
