THE love, guidance, and emotional support children receive at home play a crucial role in shaping who they become, says Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection Sashi Kiran.
While highlighting this during the Save the Children “Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect Prayer Vigil” held at Suva’s Cathedral Church on Friday, she said homes must be sanctuaries of peace and support.
“Nurturing minds means recognising that children’s mental and emotional wellbeing are just as vital as their physical safety,” Ms Kiran said.
“Every child deserves to feel heard, understood, and supported as they grow.
“Therefore, I call on all families, neighbours, faith leaders, teachers, youth groups, and community members to take an active role in protecting children.”
She is urging everyone not to remain silent when they see children and women being abused.
“Early intervention saves lives.
“Each year we commemorate the International Day for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (PCAN) on November 19, World Children’s Day on November 20 and the 16 Days of Activism for Gender Based Violence from November 25 to December 10.
“Our theme, ‘Nurturing Minds. Protecting Futures,’ captures the essence of our shared mission to raise children in loving, nurturing, empowering environments where children can thrive free from fear.”
