Fiji edge Argentina in Dubai pool clash

The Fiji Airways Fijian 7s side opened their Dubai campaign with a hard-fought 24–19 victory over Argentina in a thrilling Pool A encounter at The Sevens Stadium.

Argentina struck early with tries from Santino Zangara in the 2nd minute and star finisher Marcos Moneta in the 4th, putting the South Americans ahead 12–0. Fiji responded in trademark style, turning on the pace and offloads to score three unanswered tries before halftime.

Viwa Naduvalo sparked Fiji’s comeback with a try in the 5th minute, followed quickly by Jeremaia Matana in the 7th and a second from Naduvalo in the 8th minute to give Fiji a 19–12 lead at the break. Conversions were added by George Bose and Waisea Nacuqu.

The second half remained tight, with Argentina’s Sebastian Dubuc crossing in the 13th minute to level the contest temporarily. However, Fiji sealed the win through a decisive try from George Bose in the 10th minute of play, pushing the final score to 24–19.

Argentina’s Santiago Vera Feld contributed two conversions, keeping his side within striking distance until the final whistle.
