The Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) has announced a tentative extension of the Labasa Mill crushing season to Friday, 5 December 2025, following recent heavy rainfall that disrupted harvesting and transportation.
In a statement, FSC encouraged all growers to make full use of the additional time.
“Growers are encouraged to take full advantage of this extension. FSC’s field team will closely monitor harvesting activities and cane deliveries throughout this period,” said FSC Chairman, Nitya Reddy.
FSC added that weather conditions will be assessed daily, and further adjustments to the deadline may be made if necessary.
“We assure all farmers, harvesting gangs, and transport operators that we will continue to provide full cooperation and support to ensure all harvestable cane is cut and delivered within the extended timeframe.”
The corporation said its entire field team, supported by additional staff, will remain available to assist with coordination needs, urging growers to maintain momentum during this crucial period.
Mr Reddy added further announcements for the Lautoka and Rarawai mills are expected next week.
Post-fire reinstatement trials at the Rarawai Mill are progressing well, and FSC is hopeful crushing will begin by early December, provided no technical or mechanical issues arise.
“Stakeholders supplying cane to the Viti Levu mills, from Rakiraki to Sigatoka, are advised to remain calm as preparations continue.”
FSC also appealed to all growers to reduce cane burning and maintain steady field operations.
“FSC stands ready to provide all necessary assistance, but the primary drive must come from our farmers as we work collectively towards a successful crushing season,” said Mr Reddy.
