THE Fijian Cup resumes its final round this week, with the much-anticipated Rugby League Nines competition kicking off at Lawaqa Park today and culminate tomorrow.
Both the men’s and women’s divisions have attracted strong teams locally and from overseas, promising two days of fast, physical and entertaining rugby league action.
In the Naseigwane Men’s Open 9s, teams have been drawn into four competitive pools featuring sides such as SB Panthers, Malosi South, Isa Warriors, Navy Albatross, Brisbane Jackals, USP Raiders and Nadera Panthers.
The Vulau Women’s Open 9s will also showcase top talent with teams like Te Aroha, Saru Dragons, Police Blue, Kilcoy Yowies, Lami Steelers, TTT Natives and Papakura Sisters all set to take the field.
Tournament organisers have confirmed attractive prizes for this year’s event. Both the men’s and women’s champions will walk away with a FJ$15,000 Fijian Cup package and FJ$7,000 cash.
Runner-up teams will collect FJ$2,500, while the MVP in each grade will receive FJ$1,000. Additional awards will also be presented at the stadium, including $500 prizes for the MVP referees and the Tourney Legend, as well as $1,000 for the Best Team Kit.
Fans at Lawaqa Park will also have the chance to be part of the excitement through a lucky dip draw offering $200, $300 and $500 for teams with 10 or more players in the stands during prize-giving.
With the stakes high and top teams eager to close the season on a strong note, organisers are expecting a big turnout and two thrilling days of rugby league.
