MISS Friendly North first runner-up Peggy Ravusiro will represent Labasa at this year’s Miss Fiji Pageant.

At her first public engagement in Labasa yesterday, she said she was honoured to take on the role.

“It’s not an easy role, but I hope to do my utmost best to make the people of Labasa proud,” Ms Ravusiro said.

She said her months of medical training in the North had strengthened her ties to the region.

“I’m not from Labasa, but I have worked here during my final year of medical school.

“Representing the three provinces feels natural because the community has become a big part of my life.”

Her advocacy will focus on HIV and AIDS, substance abuse and concerns about corporal punishment.

“The Fiji we live in today is very different from the Fiji our parents and grandparents grew up in,” she said.

Her key message centres on the family unit.

“Care is a child’s first right and a parent’s responsibility. Neglect is a real issue in Fiji.”

The Miss Fiji Pageant will be held from December 10-13 at the Suva Civic Centre.
