The National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi has issued a heavy rain warning for the whole of Fiji.
This was done in Special Weather Bulletin  issued at 10.30am today, warning that widespread heavy rain is now in force for the entire Fiji group.
Forecasters say an active trough of low pressure remains slow-moving over the country, bringing persistent cloud, showers and periods of heavy rain that are expected to continue until Thursday. Confidence in the forecast remains high.
According to the centre, several areas recorded significant rainfall in the 24 hours to 9am. These include:
Nayarabale – 100.5mm
Dreketilailai – 131.5mm
Authorities warn that the prolonged rainfall could trigger major flooding in flood-prone and low-lying communities, informal settlements and business areas. Irish crossings and small bridges may become impassable, potentially causing traffic disruptions.
Urban centres with poor drainage systems are also at risk of flash flooding, while motorists are urged to take extra care due to wet, slippery roads and reduced visibility during heavy downpours.
Members of the public are advised to stay updated with the latest alerts and to take necessary precautions as the wet weather continues.
