Minister reports decrease in Police officers charged with sexual offences

The , has informed Parliament that the number of police officers implicated in sexual offences has seen a decrease over the past three years.

Presenting data for the periods of 2023 to October 2025, Minister Naivaurua reported that the number of officers charged dropped from eight in 2023 to six in 2024.

In the first ten months of 2025, a total of four officers have been charged.

The data, detailed in a parliamentary report, breaks down the specific charges and the number of counts for each implicated officer.

The offences range from indecent assault and sexual assault to rape and attempts to commit rape.

In 2023, the eight charged officers were implicated in a total of 26 counts across various cases.

This number decreased to 22 counts involving six officers in 2024.

The four officers charged from January to October 2025 were associated with six counts of sexual offences.
