THERE will be 12 teams from Ovalau featured in the Fiji Bitter Yalovata 7s when it kicks off this Friday at Nasau Park in Levuka.

Tournament co-ordinator and vice-president Meli Volau said these 12 teams were made up of seven men’s teams and five under-21 teams.

With this figure representing the host island alone, an indication of the high interest in the tournament, they add onto the 24 men, eight women, 16 under-21, 16 volleyball and 16 netball teams participating in the tournament.

As the days loom nearer for Ovalau to be filled with high-spirited grassroots rugby competition, the call for great support has been voiced by Volau.

“To the people of Lomaiviti and Ovalau, please come in numbers and support your team and support the tournament organisers since they have been organising for the past five years,” Volau urged.

“Come in numbers and enjoy the rugby festival that we’ll be hosting in the next few days.”

With the presence of many teams playing rugby union, volleyball and netball, Nasau Park is expected to fill up in large numbers as residents from around Levuka and the greater Ovalau region will convene at the venue to witness the first stop of the Fiji Bitter 7s series come to life.

This will be the most recent activity taking place at the park, following the Fijian Drua’s community blitz there last Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Bitter Yalovata 7s will end on Saturday.
