DISCIPLINE and respect are two values stressed by former Fijiana 7s captain Rusila Nagasau to the Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s side ahead of the HSBC Dubai 7s, which gets underway this week.
And with a team made up of young and experienced players eager to strut their stuff in Dubai, Nagasau has emphasised the essence of these values for the team as the series starts to unfold.
“Rugby is not new to them even though they are young girls in the team, in the squad,” Nagasau said.
“Once you learn the rugby values and you abide by the rules and follow the values, it will lift you wherever you want to go especially the discipline and the respect we have in the values.”
Nagasau was a part of the national sevens side at its pivotal moments, such as their qualification to the 2016 Rio Olympics during the 2015 Oceania Women’s Sevens Championship final against Samoa, where she scored four tries and helped Fiji win 55-0.
She was also part of the Fijiana 7s team to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Japan where the side had a podium finish with a bronze medal.
In 2022, she was part of the team that won silver at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.
This year, she was part of the Vodafone Fijiana XV team to the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup in England.
Speaking with seasoned depth and experience on the current Fijiana 7s team’s preparations, she has expressed her well wishes to the team for this weekend.
“I wish them well and I believe they will reach a favourable position for the series ahead.”
The Fijiana 7s are grouped in Pool A with Argentina, France and the United States and they face the US their opening game.
