Minister for Policing Iowane Naivalurua has revealed that 78 Fiji Police Force officers have had their services terminated between 1 January 2023 and 30 October 2025, with most leaving the force after resigning improperly and travelling overseas.

Updating Parliament in a written response to a question filed, the Minister said the officers were dismissed mainly for failing to follow the “proper systems and processes of resignation and overseas travel.”

“From 2023 to August 2025, around 80 percent of those terminated deserted the Fiji Police Force and resigned once they were already overseas,” Naivalurua said.

He noted that many officers effectively dismissed themselves by not adhering to the established resignation procedures.

The Minister also confirmed that a significant number of those who left went on to take up jobs abroad.

“Most of the police officers departed for employment in the New Zealand Corrections Services during this period,” he said.

According to ministry data, 72 officers were terminated and six discharged on medical grounds, bringing the total to 78.

A breakdown shows 34 departures recorded from 2023–2024, 35 between January and August 2025, 4 in August 2025, 2 in September 2025 and 3 in October 2025
