THE State’s motion to have the case of two police officers charged for their alleged involvement in the importation and possession of 4.7 kilograms of liquid methamphetamine transferred to another court will be heard this Friday.

Officer Sevuloni Lubi, 43, sought bail because he is required to shave regularly while in remand and is concerned about the sharing of shaving blades and the use of other utensils, which he claims could be contaminated with HIV.

Mr Lubi was charged with Ratu Lote Lewaivanua, 31, who was allegedly found in possession of $650, suspected to be proceeds of crime, on September 12.

In his ruling, magistrate Charles Ratakele said Mr Lubi has not provided sufficient or reliable evidence for the court to seriously consider. He is of the view that there is no significant change in circumstances in his application.

In a separate case, 36-year-old Alipate Matadigo, who is also facing charges related to the importation of methamphetamine, sought release from custody so he could assist his elderly parents, saying he is the sole breadwinner and suffers from a medical condition.

After carefully examining the submissions, Mr Ratakele was of the view Mr Matadigo would not appear in court to answer his charges.

Both cases will be called on November 28.
