EXTENSIVE training has been provided to all 604 officials selected to oversee the Fiji Primary School Tuckers Ice Cream Games, ensuring the smooth running of the tournament.

The Fiji Primary Schools Athletics Association president, Patrick Bower, expressed gratitude to Athletics Fiji for their expertise in training officials from the various competing districts.

Bower emphasised the importance of athletics as a foundation for future sporting careers, highlighting the role it plays in shaping athletes for various sports.

“All officials who will be officiating on the day have been trained for their technical experience, and we are grateful to Athletics Fiji for providing the expertise to train those from the other districts,” said Bower.

He adds this year, the focus has been on fairness and proper preparation, with all athletes fully registered and verified to ensure transparency and fair play.

“Athletics is the foundation for so many future sporting careers, whether it’s rugby, soccer, swimming or any other sport.

“This year, fairness and proper preparation have been our top priorities.”

Bower said every athlete has been fully registered and verified, with all birth certificates and entries checked to ensure absolute transparency and fair play.

“We’ve also invested heavily in training our officials, even sending expert trainers to the districts to raise standards and avoid rule misunderstandings on the day.”

He indicated that they’ve encouraged managers to keep their athletes disciplined- no kava in camp- and strict punctuality for all events. When it’s time to report to the track, they must be ready.

Bower is also encouraging parents, families, and supporters to turn out in large numbers and cheer on the athletes.

With over 2388 athletes set to compete in Suva, along with 604 officials, the competition promises to be fierce and exciting.

The games are scheduled to take place this Thursday and Friday at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
