Republic of the Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Commander Major General Jone Kalouniwai expressed pride in his team’s performance, even in the face of a 10-26 defeat against the Fiji Police Force during the 2025 Vodafone Ratu Sukuna Bowl clash on Friday at Subrail Park in Labasa.
The Commander, speaking shortly after the final whistle, acknowledged the superior play of their rivals while commending the dedication shown by the RFMF side.
“We came in confident, the boys played well, but I think Police were the better team today.
“They made their mistakes on the field and they couldn’t recover from it,” he said.
The atmosphere leading into the showdown was one of high stakes, a sentiment Major General Kalouniwai had impressed upon his players days earlier.
“But, I’m glad, I’m proud of what they’ve done today. I told them on Sunday that it was a David and Goliath situation for them so it would be a very challenging one for them, it won’t be easy, they have to put everything on the line.”
In addition to reflecting on the match, Major General Kalouniwai also touched upon the future planning for the prestigious annual fixture.
“Well, we haven’t actually come to a decision at the moment. But I am sure that we will go back and see whether we will have it in Suva or take it to the west or somewhere else, but that has to be decided first by the committee.”
For Major General Kalouniwai and the RFMF the focus remains on the immense effort and fighting spirit displayed by his ‘David’ against the reigning ‘Goliath’.
