THE Great Council of Chiefs chairman Ratu Viliame Seruvakula says little is known about Fijians linked to the KVT gang in Australia, which has been involved in major drug busts and violent crime.
Ratu Viliame Seruvakula said it was important to find out exactly who were all involved.
“We’ve heard about it on the news, but we don’t have much information yet about the gang or its activities,” he said.
Based on available information, he said, it was merely the name of the gang and included some Fijians residing in Australia.
“I think we need to properly establish who they really are. I can’t really say more because I don’t have a full understanding of what they are doing.”
The KVT gang in Western Sydney, Australia is believed to have started as a small street gang but has grown into a serious crime group involved in drug trafficking and violence.
Australian police recently arrested three men linked to KVT and seized 40 kilograms of drugs worth $12.5million.
In another case, two more Fijians were arrested over 128 kilograms of cocaine valued at $93million.
However, when asked about the use of drugs among young people, he said, everybody was concerned.
“At the home front, I believe the police, along with the Government’s holistic approach, are beginning to see positive results.
“There is still a fair way to go, but I think we are on the right path by monitoring and taking action.”
He believes Government’s assistance to police has progressed well and all necessary measures were being addressed.
“We are moving in the right direction.”
He said it was not something that would be solved immediately, but it was solvable if communities came together to support the Government and the police.
