The Fiji Sports Council has taken proactive steps to ensure the safety and smooth running of the upcoming Fiji Primary Schools Tuckers Ice Cream Games by engaging a security company to manage security operations at the event.
This move comes as a part of a new initiative aimed at improving the management of major sporting events, with this year’s competition serving as a trial for the new system.
With 26 districts and 2388 athletes from across the country set to compete in this year’s games, the Fiji Sports Council CEO, Ratu Gilbert Vakalalabure, highlighted the importance of implementing this new security measure for the safety of all participants and spectators.
“We are working with a global tribal risk management company to help us find the best way to facilitate these improvements,” said Vakalalabure.
“In past events, we’ve experienced challenges with crowd control and long queues.
“This new system is designed to streamline ticketing, improve safety, and meet the expectations of our sponsors and the public, ensuring a smoother and more enjoyable experience for everyone throughout the competition.”
Tribal Risk, a Fijian-owned security and risk-management company, provides professional services in both Fiji and the United Kingdom.
Additionally, Patrick Bower, the President of the Fiji Primary Schools Athletics Association, emphasised the importance of fairness and proper preparation for this year’s competition.
He adds every athlete has been fully registered and verified, with strict measures in place to ensure transparency and fair play.
“This year, fairness and proper preparation have been our top priorities.” Bower said every athlete has been fully registered and verified, with all birth certificates and entries checked to ensure absolute transparency and fair play.
The Tuckers Ice Cream Games will be held at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva this Thursday and Friday.
