A total of 33 men’s team and 35 women’s team from the northern, central and western divisions from 12 associations converged yesterday National Volleyball Clubs Championships.
Tournament director Jone Balelomaloma says the turnout for the championships highlights the positive progress the sport has made.
“There are 12 association and the number of teams they’ve sent in is 33 for men and 35 for women,” he said.
“That’s a positive because if you notice we have more women’s team in this competition than men’s team which is a positive sign for volleyball.”
The national championship is contested by the top four teams from each association from across the country vying for national supremacy.
“We have all the top teams from each association that are vying for that top position. We have eight pools and out of the eight pools only the number one ranked team progresses to the quarter-finals.” Baleilomaloma explained.
Several nationals’ reps also turned out in their club colours for the championship, most coming from western division team who arrived on the second day of competition.
The final pool games were still underway when this edition went to press.
