Members of the proposed NextGen Alliance Party lodged their application today – FEO

The Fijian Elections Office (FEO) has confirmed that the proposed NextGen Alliance Party lodged its application for registration today.

Registrar of Political Parties Ana Mataiciwa said the FEO is now preparing to publicly advertise the application, as required under the Political Parties (Registration, Conduct, Funding and Disclosures) Act 2013.

The notice will be published in a newspaper and in the Gazette before the formal objections period begins.

“During the objections period, any person may submit a written objection to the FEO regarding the party’s application for registration. The FEO will assess and respond to all objections within seven days of receipt, after giving the proposed party an opportunity to respond,” Ms Mataiciwa said.

She confirmed that both objectors and the applicant will be informed of the FEO’s decision once the assessment is completed.

After the objections process, the proposed party will be notified on whether its application has been approved or rejected.

The FEO will only grant registration after a full compliance check with the legal requirements outlined in the 2013 Act.

Ms Mataiciwa reiterated that the registration process is built on openness and public involvement.

“Transparency and public participation are essential. The process ensures all proposed parties meet the law’s requirements and that the public has a meaningful opportunity to engage,” she said.
