Police have launched a full review of violence cases in the North after a spike in attacks on women and children revealed gaps in frontline policing.
Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu said police commanders and teams at headquarters have been instructed to go through their records and statistics and identify where policing had weakened.
“We are looking back into the stats to find out the weaknesses,” he said.
Although the region is known for being friendly, Mr Tudravu said, the latest figure on violence against women and children is worrying.
“We aim to continue with the drop in the overall serious crime rates; this was our intention all along.”
