The National Weather Forecasting Centre has maintained a heavy rain alert for the eastern half of Viti Levu — including Serua–Namosi, Navua–Suva–Nausori, Tailevu–Naitasiri–Ra — as well as Southern Bua, Cakaudrove, Taveuni, Lau, Lomaiviti, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands.

A strong wind warning also remains in force for Lau, Lomaiviti, Kadavu, Taveuni and surrounding islands.

Forecasters say a moist southeasterly wind flow continues to influence the country, while an active trough of low pressure is expected to move over eastern parts of Fiji from Saturday.

Periods of cloud, showers and isolated heavy rain are expected across affected areas today, with the risk of flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone communities.

Strong southeasterly winds of up to 45km/hr are anticipated over Lau, Lomaiviti, Kadavu and Taveuni later today, with rough seas expected.

Occasional heavy rain and thunderstorms will continue into Saturday.
