“I WANT a win, nothing more, nothing less.”
These were the sentiments of Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu as the 2025 Vodafone Ratu Sukuna Bowl main rugby match is set to be held today at Subrail Park in Labasa.
The excitement could be felt on the streets of Labasa as people roam in Police and Army colours, enjoying the sudden change in weather.
Rain was experienced across Labasa on Wednesday, but it cleared yesterday with their usual sunny weather setting the atmosphere for a memorable Sukuna Bowl experience.
Tudravu was at the football match yesterday where he got to witness his Police side defeat Army 2-0 to retain the title for the eighth consecutive year.
That win must surely set the tone for the main rugby match today and expectations are high for Police to defend the prestigious tanoa.
“I’m just the same as the commander here, this is the climax for all sports and I want a win, nothing more, nothing less.
“With the experience that we have had in Suva and in the Western Division, it’s now coming to the North. I have heard our chairman say that us in Viti Levu should stay and allow them to watch the game so we would like to see that kind of feeling in Vanua Levu.
“It’s the first time and you know that they will be enjoying it,” he said.
Beyond the game, both teams are advocating a common message.
“It is also taking the message if fighting HIV and drugs; the two forces are leading that. When it’s Sukuna week, it’s a different week for us.”
Tudravu also took the opportunity to remind his men that duty will continue as usual.
“Having said that, I have already directed that during Sukuna Bowl, the players will play, and the rest will work, that is our main consideration.
“Sukuna week will come and go but the Police job will remain for us to focus on. The Police teams are ready.”
Today’s matches begin at 11am with the women, followed by the toast of the Sukuna Bowl which is the men’s rugby match at 3pm.
