THE Fiji Football national men’s team will square up against the defending champions of the MSG Prime Minister’s Cup, Papua New Guinea in the first semi-final today at the PNG Football Stadium.

This will undoubtedly be one of the toughest matches for the young Bula Boys outfit and head coach Stephane Auvray admitted to this while giving his thoughts on the semi-final match-up.

He said that facing tough opponents is part and parcel of this new journey that they are embarking on.

“Our position since we came here was really to start a new cycle with our players so every game is a new experience for them so I would say for this one, we’ll be facing an opponent that is probably even better then who have faced so far.

“I just want to see how my players react, how they control their emotions and what we can get out of this game as well as we move into another cycle where we have more time to work and create some kind of playing style and identity,” he said.

Auvray hopes that despite the results, fans will understand the vision and the direction he is steering the team in.

“I hope they understood that we are building a new cycle and we are trying to give opportunities to every player so I personally think they could expect that the players would do their best and hopefully they also understand that we need time to create our identity in terms of playing but I hope they will keep supporting us.”

Fiji will take on PNG today at 6pm.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Kulas will also be in action tomorrow in the second women’s semi-final at 3pm.
