FIJI Waters Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne is adamant of another tough encounter against their Spanish opponents this weekend.
Last year Spain took the Flying Fijians to the wire, the team had to score four unanswered tries in the last quarter to deny Spain a historic win.
The performance still haunts the team and Byrne plans to pull out all the stops and end their Europe tour on a high.
“In Spain last year they showed us the passion and the emotion they can bring at home. We know we’re in for three big games,” he said.
The former Drua coach has retained most of his line-up in the past two matches, Pacific Nations Cup debutant Joji Nasova is yet to add to his two internationals caps after a memorable performance at the PNC.
His inclusion ahead of other overseas based players means he is rated highly by the national coach.
Coach Byrne is confident the Ba native has the potential to be a world class player.
“Joji fitted in really well with the side in PNC and made some real progress. We feel that while it’s an opportunity for Giorgi to come in and grow, that learning he took from PNC and take another step. We know he’s a world-class service player.” Byrne explained
“He showed us in PNC that he has real potential to develop into a world-class winner in the 15s.”
The Flying Fijians will take on Spain this Sunday November 22 at 4:00am at Estadio de Atletismo Ciudad de Málaga in Spain.
