A senior lawyer has lodged a formal complaint with the Online Safety Commission over a post published on a fake Facebook account accusing him of molesting a female staff member.
Jitendra Reddy said a Facebook post was put up over the weekend alleging he molested one of his female staff while working overtime at his law office in Nakasi.
It further claimed the staff member wanted to resign but her resignation was not accepted, and her purported report at the Nakasi Police Post was not accepted.
Mr Reddy said the claims were false and made by someone trying to tarnish his reputation because he has shown interest in joining politics.
“We’re trying to locate the author,” he said outside the Suva Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
“It has never happened in the office because I am a man of ethics, and I know my boundaries and my staff. You can ask my former staff, you can ask my current staff,” he said, adding that his wife also works with him.
“I have very high respect for my staff. I never authorise any of my staff to come and do overtime.”
He maintained that at the time of the alleged incident, he was travelling back to Suva from the West with his wife.
Mr Reddy also stated that he travels to and from work every day with his wife.
He said a report will be lodged today with the Police Cybercrime Unit.
He is calling on the person behind the account to stop publishing false posts without evidence.
“People who have the guts to post false information should have the guts to come out with a proper profile and not hide behind a false profile.”
Police are yet to respond to questions sent by this newspaper.
