FIJI Rugby is set to excel its brand both on and off the field following the confirmation that the FIJI Water Flying Fijians will be part of the new Nations Championship from next year.
This historic milestone means Fiji gets access to top tier one games like never before while also marketing the Fiji Rugby brand to huge markets in Europe.
Under the new structure, the Flying Fijians will get to play six cross-hemisphere fixtures which will see them along with other southern hemisphere teams travel to the north in November while the northern hemisphere teams will travel south in July.
“For our children playing on village grounds, for our families gathered to watch every test match and for Fijians everywhere, this milestone belongs to you,” FRU Board chairman John Sanday stated.
This means that for the first time, Fiji gest regular meaningful and world class test rugby.
“This platform, accelerates our growth, strengthens our systems and provides a clear pathway for future generations to thrive in elite rugby.
“This is not just an invitation, it validates our potential and positions Fiji to inspire the world with our passion, resilience and uniquely Fijian style of rugby,” FRU CEO Koli Sewabu stated.
The Nations Championship is a collaboration between Six Nations Rugby and SANZAAR bringing together 12 of the strongest rugby nations in a single elite competition.
The southern hemisphere teams include the invitational sides of Fiji and Japan joining New Zealand, Australia, Argentina and South Africa.
The north is represented by England, Italy, Wales, Scotland, Ireland and France.
