ARMY boxer Foama Seru secured the final victory of Day One in the Vodafone Ratu Sukuna Bowl boxing competition, defeating Police’s Fenton Thagard at the Police Academy in Nasova yesterday.

The referee intervened in the second round when Thagard was unable to continue, leading to Seru’s triumph.

Army’s head coach Alfred Ledua expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance on the opening day of the competition.

He emphasised the importance of hard work over talent and commended the boxers for their dedication and commitment.

“It is a great start to the competition, I can say that both teams did really well, and its only just day one,” said Ledua.

Ledua acknowledged the challenge posed by Police, the defending champions, but remained confident in his team’s abilities.

He emphasized the need to analyse mistakes and improve for the remaining days of the competition.

“Police is a tough side, and have more experience boxers, I can say we came on day one and set our target, and achieved it on day-one, we will go back and look at our mistakes and come back stronger on the final’s days.”

The coach thanked the boxers for their efforts in preparing for the tournament and urged them to continue working hard as they aim for success in the upcoming matches.

“I like to thank the boxers for putting in the hard work leading up to this competition, and we hope for the best on day two and three.”

Meanwhile, boxing will continue today and conclude on Wednesday.
