IN the face of the current climate crisis, Fiji does not have the luxury of treating sustainability as a optional esthetic, says Finance Minister Esrom Immanuel.
While addressing delegates at the Extra Fiji Architecture Conference and Trade Exhibition at the Sheraton Fiji Golf Resort and Spa in Denarau, Nadi, Mr Immanuel said sustainability and economic survival were imperative.
“The Fiji climate resilient Building Code, which we have recently strengthened, provides the technical baseline, but it is sure impunity that will elevate it.
Mr Immanuel said government is actively seeking innovative designs through its Public Private Partnership Program.
“The forthcoming ministry of service headquarters, for instance, is mandated to be a net zero energy building, a flexible project that will send new standard for the entire nation.”
Mr Immanuel said a well-designed building is a high performing asset.
