The East versus West Bowling Championship got off to an exciting start on Saturday at the Fiji Bowling Club in Suva, with both teams battling hard in day one of the tournament.

Games vice-president Ramesh Chand described the competition as fierce, highlighting the presence of top bowlers from both sides.

“Competition has been tough. We are grateful for the great weather. The top bowlers, most of them Fiji reps from the west and the trialist from the East, are competing today (Saturday), he explained.

“With some new faces as well, the competition has been tough and really good.” Chand explained.”

With national selectors in attendance, players are motivated to deliver their best performances, as spots in the national team for the next years Commonwealth Games are on the line.

“Definitely this is one of our top tournaments, those on trail are vying for a position in the Commonwealth Games one of the prestigious tournaments,” he said.

“Everybody is putting in their best they have been preparing for the last three months and that’s why the competition has been very good. If you see the results most of the games are really close.”

The West team held a 5-2 lead over the East on the opening day.
