FREIGHT and logistics company Movements International Fiji Limited is the first corporate body to hop on board as a category sponsor of the inaugural Fiji Rugby Referees Awards, scheduled for next month.

The company and representatives of the Fiji Rugby Referees Association made the announcement in a press conference at the Fiji Rugby Union office in Suva yesterday.

Scheduled for December 20 at the Vodafone Arena in Suva, the ceremony promises to be an event where the best in Fiji’s rugby refereeing fraternity is honoured for their work and achievements.

Movements International’s finance and human resources director Latika Devi expressed her organisation’s enthusiasm for being a part of the awards ceremony.

“When I received the proposal from Fiji Rugby, I thought this is a good opportunity for us to invest,” Devi told the media.

She said the sponsorship aligned with the organisation’s belief to invest in sports and affirmed the work of rugby referees as a cornerstone of action on the field.

“This sponsorship is about investing in leadership and discipline,” she added.

Fiji Rugby Referees Association chairman Talimo Waqa said their partnership signified the level of respect they held for rugby referees.

“They respect the referees and what the referees mean to the community of rugby and sports, just like referees, we have umpires in sports,” Waqa explained.

He said the company’s swift response to partnering with them was an indication of their commitment in honouring the values which mirrored those enshrined by the association.

These values, he said, were respect, solidarity and integrity. The organisers have also extended a call in urging more sponsors and corporate bodies to come on board in helping to hold the event.

The awards night on December 20 will begin with a cocktail from 6-7pm and the ceremony takes place from 7-11pm.
