The National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi has issued a warning of flash flooding across parts of the country as heavy rain continues to lash Fiji.
A flash flood warning is now in force for the eastern half of Viti Levu, covering Serua–Namosi through Navua–Suva–Nausori to Tailevu–Naitasiri–Ra.
A flash flood alert also remains active for the Northern Division, with authorities cautioning that conditions may deteriorate further if rainfall persists.
According to weather forecasters, a trough of low pressure remains slow-moving over Fiji, bringing bands of cloud, showers and periods of heavy rain that are expected to continue until tomorrow.
Rainfall forecast models and weather radar imagery all indicate a high risk of flash flooding, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone communities.
Officials warn of possible flooding in drainages, small streams, low-water bridges, Irish crossings, roads and properties situated in vulnerable areas.
In the past six hours alone, Nasinu rainfall station recorded 69.5mm of rain.
The public is urged to remain alert, avoid flooded crossings and monitor further updates from authorities as the weather system evolves.
