Assistant Minister for Justice Ratu Josaia Niudamu has issued a firm reminder to all Justices of the Peace (JPs) to uphold the highest standards of integrity, impartiality and respect when serving the public.
In a statement, Ratu Josaia said the Ministry had received concerns about the behaviour and attitude of some JPs, and these issues were being treated seriously.
“The public rightly expects every JP to act with professionalism, courtesy and fairness in all interactions,” he said.
“Instances of rude, dismissive or inappropriate conduct undermine confidence in our justice system and will not be tolerated.”
He said the Ministry of Justice was monitoring the situation closely and would take “appropriate action” against any JP who failed to meet the standards required of the office.
“Justices of the Peace hold a solemn duty. Their conduct must reflect the trust placed in them,” he said.
The Assistant Minister also encouraged members of the public to report any incidents of misconduct, saying accountability was essential to maintaining the integrity of the justice system.
