FIJI has become the first country in the Pacific to launch the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Vigimobile App, a new digital tool designed to improve the monitoring of medicine and vaccine safely.
The official launch took place at the Holiday Inn in Suva, marking an important milestone in Fiji’s ongoing commitment to protect public health.
Developed by WHO and the Uppsala Monitoring Centre (UMC), the Vigimobile app allows healthcare workers and the public to easily and securely report any unexpected side effects or reactions to medicines and vaccines.
Deputy WHO representative Ms Sophie Genay-Diliautas congratulated the Ministry of Health and Medical Services for leading the way in the Pacific.
She noted that Fiji has long been a pioneer in medicine safety since joining the WHO program for International Drug Monitoring in 1999.
The app can be used offline, supports multiple languages, and ensures data security, making it accessible to health workers in both urban and remote areas.
Its launch also coincides with the 10-year anniversary of #MedSafetyWeek, a global campaign led by UMC promoting safe medicine use through timely and accurate reporting.
“Vigimobile contributes to a safer, more responsive health system,” Ms Genay-Diliautas said.
“WHO remains committed to supporting Fiji in this transformative journey.”
