The Public Service Commission has appointed Peni Sikivou as the new permanent secretary for National Planning, Development and Statistics.

PSC chairman Luke Rokovada said the appointment was made with the agreement of the Prime Minister. He said Mr Sikivou brings three decades of experience in government and regional institutions, with work spanning economic planning, project planning, financial management, and monitoring and evaluation.

Mr Rokovada said Mr Sikivou had served in both the public and private sectors and had also worked regionally with the Melanesian Spearhead Group Secretariat in Port Vila, Vanuatu.

He said this experience would support the ministry’s role in guiding national planning and development priorities.

Mr Sikivou holds a Master of Science degree in macro-economic policy and planning for developing countries from the University of Bradford in the United Kingdom. He is currently pursuing a PhD.

The commission said it looks forward to his leadership as the ministry continues its work on national planning, policy coordination and statistical reporting.
