FAMILIES must spend more time with their loved ones, says Vodafone Sugar Festival contestant Michelle Lambert.
“I believe if you look at it, most parents are not sure what their children do nowadays,” said Ms Lambert, who is sponsored by Lei Entertainers.
“Some of them don’t even know their children smoke, so that’s why I decided to advocate on that topic.”
The 20-year-old, who hails from Navaka, Noco, Rewa with maternal links to Kulukulu Village in Nadroga, is one of the five contestants vying for the Sugar Festival queen’s crown.
“It’s kind of exciting and a new thing for me. I would say it’s a real journey and I’m happy to be here.”
Ms Lambert took a week to prepare her traditional Fijian attire, but did not to reveal the intricate details of her ensemble.
She said the annual festival also serves as a platform to help empower young women.
“It is a place where people can showcase and use their talents, and I believe younger women have the ability and confidence to be strong.”
