The Fiji Meteorological Service has warned that a change in weather conditions is expected to bring widespread rain and thunderstorms across the country from later today.
In a statement issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi at 10:45am today, the department said a trough of low pressure located to the west of Fiji is gradually moving east, bringing with it associated cloud, showers, and rain that are forecast to affect most parts of the country.
Fine weather is expected apart from brief showers over Ba-Tavua-Rakiraki, Tailevu-Naitasiri-Ra, Northern Bua, Macuata, Kadavu, Lau and the Lomaiviti group. Elsewhere, conditions will be partly cloudy.
The weather office said occasional rain and thunderstorms, with heavy falls, will develop from the west and spread across the rest of the country later today.
Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low-lying and flood-prone areas,” it warned.
For Saturday, the forecast is for occasional rain and isolated thunderstorms over Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri-Ra, Southern Bua, Cakaudrove, Taveuni, Kadavu, Lau and the Lomaiviti groups, with heavy falls likely in some areas.
