Aspen Medical Australia has announced a milestone in Fiji’s healthcare sector, with the successful completion of the country’s first-ever cardiac stenting procedure at the Lautoka Hospital Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory (Cath Lab).
The procedure, known as a Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) Stenting, is a minimally invasive treatment used to open blocked arteries in the heart. This marks a major advancement in the delivery of specialised cardiac care for patients in the Western Division.
The first patient to undergo the procedure was 46-year-old Vimelsh Kumar of Votualevu, Nadi, who had been suffering from severe chest pain and had experienced a heart attack in August.
The operation was successfully led by Aspen Medical Specialist Physician and Cardiologist, Dr Bharatvansh Bali.
Aspen Medical said the successful stenting procedure is a significant step forward in Fiji’s journey toward providing comprehensive, advanced cardiac services at the Lautoka Hospital.
