SEVENS action is set to unfold today at Churchill Park in Lautoka as the Yaro Chiefs 7s tournament kicks off its first day of competition.

The tournament, spanning two days, will see a total of 40 men’s teams, 24 under-21 teams, and eight women’s teams battling it out for title.

Tournament director James Vunituraga has highlighted that this event marks the beginning of the Sevens season and is one of the biggest Rugby 7s tournaments on the calendar.

He adds teams have been diligently preparing for the competition and are eager to showcase their skills at Churchill Park.

“The host team, Yaro Chiefs Rugby Club is from the Chiefly village of Yaro in Malolo, home of Na Momo Na Tui Lawa’ with the hype and celebrations of the Skipper Cup will continue during this tournament at Churchill Park in Lautoka,” said Vunituraga.

“Fans and spectators can expect to witness top teams in Fiji, such as Army Green, Devo Babas, and Wardens Gold, showcasing their prowess on the field.

“Notably, the inclusion of players like Amenoni Nasilasila, who will be representing Yaro Chiefs Rugby Club, adds to the excitement of the event.”

The tournament will also feature a Rugby Carnival atmosphere with music and entertainment to enhance the spectator experience.

While some new teams have joined the competition, the familiar faces and talents of players from previous tournaments will be on display.

“On behalf of ‘Na Momo Na Tui Lawa’ who is the Chairman of the Organising Committee, I would like to take this time to Welcome all Fans and supporters in the West, from Sigatoka and Nadroga to Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua and Rakiraki to come and support their team and be part of the great celebrations at Churchill Park in Lautoka.”

The tournament will conclude tomorrow.
